Innovation in Action

At Allens, we’re problem solvers. We’re focussed on advancing the legal industry through equipping our people with the skills and experience they need to be the lawyers of the future.

Our in‑house alternative legal services team consists of specialists across a variety of disciplines, led by a Partner dedicated to innovation. We encourage people from across the firm to work on the development of new technologies and processes. This approach does more than benefit our clients. New tools and ways of working enhance our own capability, allowing us to assist on increasingly complex matters.

Innovation isn’t new to Allens. We’ve received five innovation awards in the last two years. Join us and you’ll have the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of emerging technology. You’ll shape the future.

Case Study: Real Estate Due Diligence App

For our property lawyers, reviewing leases is an important but time-consuming part of the job. It takes a lawyer an average five to six hours to thoroughly review one lease. On a complex real estate transaction, there can be 200 or more leases for review.  We saw this as a chance to innovate, freeing our lawyers up to develop in other areas.

Our approach was to develop an end to end solution that met our clients’ needs while making internal processes more efficient. We brought together a multidisciplinary team to work with three leading artificial intelligence and collaboration legal technologies, Kira Systems, Neota Logic and HighQ Collaborate. We were tasked with the challenge of embedding more than 20 years of legal knowledge into a solution recreates the logic of a human lease review, automatically detects key risks in leases and presents the results in an easy to use form for data analysis and reporting. The Real Estate Due Diligence App (REDDA) was created.

The system removes much of the manual burden from lawyers, leaving them free to focus on expert legal analysis. For our clients, the REDDA app provides real-time access to risks, faster turnaround and greater efficiency for a property due diligence.

We are also applying these technologies across other practice areas to achieve similar efficiencies.
