We offer a wide range of opportunities from introductory workshops to our two-year graduate program. You’ll be involved in some of the most complex domestic and global transactions in the market – whether you join us as a clerk, paralegal or law graduate.

Our Programs

Dive in

Dive In is an introductory program that provides you with some of the skills needed to apply for a clerkship, paralegal position or internship. You’ll get a taste of life in commercial law at a top‑tier firm. You’ll get insight into the type of work you can expect, details about our business and areas of practice, plus practical tips for preparing for work in a large law firm.

Applications are welcomed from first to third year undergraduate law students or first year Juris Doctor students.

For a head start in your career, apply for a clerkship at Allens. You’ll work with some of the most experienced lawyers in Australia and experience first‑hand the type of work you could do as a lawyer with us. You’ll get to work as part of a team on real matters for our clients. If you’re driven, make the most of the opportunity and get to know our people, you’ll thrive during a clerkship with us. Your development supervisor and buddy will be there to support you and help you grow. Our clerkship program is a stepping stone to bigger things. Many Clerks go on to become Graduates with us.

Applications are welcomed from penultimate year law students.

Applications for our clerkship program open in line with law society guidelines. 


We offer three-week clerkship programs in summer and winter to coincide with university holidays. You will work in one practice group, which will give you an insight into the type of work we do and the clients we work for. Our Brisbane office has a strong focus on natural resources, infrastructure, property development and corporate work. 


We offer two summer and one winter clerkship programs each year, coinciding with university holidays. You will spend three weeks in one practice group, which will show you the type of work we do and the range of clients we work for.

We run one summer clerkship program over a 10-week period, where you will complete two rotations in different practice groups. To allow students the flexibility they need, we also offer five week programs. During this time, you’ll gain unique insight into the kind of work we do and the range of clients we work for.

Indigenous Internship

Our Indigenous Legal Internship program is designed to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander law students exposure to a commercial legal environment and the opportunity to explore the practice areas we specialise in. You’ll work alongside experienced lawyers and gain new insights, learning and development opportunities.  

Applications are welcomed from undergraduate law students in their second year or above, who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Our Indigenous Legal Internship program is run in each Australian office in July.

Work at Allens as a Paralegal and you’ll gain unique insight and experience in commercial law. You’ll support talented lawyers and be exposed to a range of complex matters. A paralegal position gives you a solid grounding to apply for a clerkship or graduate position with Allens. You will network with some of the best in the profession and be immersed in the industry while finishing your law degree.

Applications are welcomed from first to third year undergraduate law students. 

We recruit our paralegals throughout the year. 

Graduate Program

Join our graduate program and embark on a journey of lifelong professional development. As a Graduate at Allens, you’ll complete two 12‑month rotations in different practice areas. We don’t work in silos, so you won’t be limited to working with only one Partner or by your practice areas. There’s no substitute for the depth of insight that comes from working with different teams. You’ll work on complex transactions with leading organisations. And, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for a client or international secondment to London or Asia via our Linklaters alliance.

Applications are welcomed from final year undergraduates, graduates and post-graduate law students.

Our graduate program is run in each Australian office during the month of February.

During your graduate program you’ll be in control of your own learning and you’ll have the flexibility to drive your career with support from your development supervisor and performance coach. We encourage our graduates to pursue their interests and we support our people so they can succeed with us and in their future endeavours.

Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice

The Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice has been developed in partnership between Allens and the Australian National University. Alongside the other development opportunities we offer, the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice will help you transition from law student to practitioner. The 18‑week program has been designed to make the content relevant to the type of work you’ll be doing at Allens. From your induction week to working in teams as part of ‘virtual law firms’ where you’ll conduct authentic legal transactions, you’ll develop the practical skills required to be admitted as a legal practitioner, one of the most exciting milestones of your legal career.
