Complete two 12-month rotations in different practise areas and work with different teams and partners on complex transactions with leading organisations. You’ll be supported and encouraged to constantly learn and improve.
Through our Allens Academy, you'll learn from some of the sharpest legal minds in Australia through classroom sessions, online learning, videos, articles and a range of support materials. You’ll benefit from practical legal seminars during our Cornerstone program, an online learning portal, a personalised induction program, as well as through on-the-job training to unlock your potential. Plus, you’ll take part in our online Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
After completing the graduate program, you’ll specialise in an area of law that excites you. As an Associate, you’ll take every opportunity to deepen your legal knowledge, develop your commercial acumen, grow your business development skills and focus on your specialist area.
Once you’ve demonstrated significant technical expertise, leadership qualities and the ability to operate at a senior level, the next step is a promotion to Senior Associate. You will be an expert in your specialist area, able to apply deep understanding and strategic thinking. You’ll be aware of developments in adjacent areas and consider how these will affect your entrusted clients. You’ll proactively support and develop your team while driving your own career growth.
The Managing Associate role is designed to accelerate the development of our senior lawyers towards partnership. As a Managing Associate, you’ll be more engaged in the business, contributing to firm‑wide strategies and initiatives. You’ll be tasked with our most complex work, solving difficult – often unprecedented – legal issues. As an expert in your specialist area, you’ll nurture client relationships, lead teams, be an internal advisor and account for financial performance.
The role of Partner recognises exceptional leadership across client relationships and people management as well as specialist expertise. You will be a trusted advisor to a portfolio of clients, advising them on their most challenging and complex business and legal issues.
Our career deal
Client demands, global competition, career expectations and shifting practice economics are changing the traditional career path of a lawyer. At Allens, we’re changing with it. We’ve developed a new approach to career development and progression so we have high performing, technically strong, mobile and flexible lawyers who want to build a career with us.
Our lawyers are rewarded on expertise, competence and performance rather than time with the firm. You’ll be encouraged to develop skills that extend beyond technical excellence. And, you’ll help others to do the same. We’ll make sure that you are ready for each promotion with individual career planning, focused training and a clear view of what needs to be achieved at each level.
For our legal professionals, careers at Allens are a two-way deal. You’ll be expected to work hard, be driven to succeed and committed to excellence. We’ll be focused on your development and support your career aspirations in return.
